How to register WinRAR on your computer

If you have not already done so, do go to our Buy Now page to license your copy of WinRAR or RAR.

After you have purchased your RAR or WinRAR license we will do our very best to send your license key file to your e-mail address within 2 working days of receiving your details and registration fee. Your key will be registered to the AV code you provided on the Cart/Checkout page, if none is provided we will use your business name, or  for a personal license we wil use your name exactly as you entered it. 

Your WinRAR registration code is contained within the key file RARREG.RAR that will be attached to your email from us.

If you have not already done so, you first need to downloaded and install the latest version of WinRAR from here to install your copy of WinRAR. For other operating systems you do need to download their corresponding version of RAR from here.  

To extract and install your WinRAR keyfile for Windows XP (and earlier):

• First you double click on the RARREG.RAR attachment to this email, WinRAR will start up and you will see that RARREG.RAR contains your RARREG.KEY file.
• Right click on RARREG.KEY and from the WinRAR menu select: Extract to the Specified Folder.
• In the right hand panel double click on C: then on the + to the left of Program Files and move the slider bar down until you can see the WinRAR folder.
• Double click on your WinRAR folder and RARREG.KEY will then be extracted and copied to your WinRAR directory. 
• Finally close the WinRAR window.
• Your copy of WinRAR on that computer is now registered, as your RARREG.KEY file is now in your /Program Files/WinRAR folder. 
• To check your registration is OK, open WinRAR (Start, All Programs, WinRAR) and click on the Help button (near the top of the WinRAR window), select About WinRAR ... and your AV code should appear under "Registered to". 

To extract and install your WinRAR keyfile for Windows 7 and Vista*:

• First you double click on the RARREG.RAR attachment to this email, WinRAR will start up and you will see that RARREG.RAR contains your RARREG.KEY file.
• Double click to open your file. If the "Please purchase …" window appears then close it.
• Right click on RARREG.KEY and from the WinRAR menu select: Extract to the Specified Folder.
• In its right hand panel double click on Desktop to highlight it and click OK. Nothing will change but your RARREG.KEY has now been extracted and copied to your Desktop. 
• Now close the WinRAR window
• Next hold down the Windows key (between the Ctrl and Alt keys on the left of most keyboards) and press "E" to open Windows Explorer (it will show "Computer" in the Address bar of the Explorer window). If the word Folders appears in the bottom of the left panel then click to expand it. 
• On that left panel double click on Local Disk (C:), click on the triangle to the left of Program Files to show the subfolders below it.
• Now click on Desktop (near the top of the left panel). In the right panel you should be able to see an icon or file named rarreg.key (or maybe just rareg) that you just extracted to the Desktop.
• On the left panel move it's slider bar down until you can see the WinRAR folder.
• Now click and select that rarreg.key file from the right hand (Desktop) folder and move it across to the WinRAR folder. If a security window opens asking for permission, click Continue twice and it is done.
• (Note: If you mistakenly double click RARREG.KEY it will give you an error message as it tries to copy it to the Windows Registry - just cancel the message and right click on it).
• Congratulations! Your copy of WinRAR on that computer is now registered, as your RARREG.KEY file is in your /Program Files/WinRAR folder.
• To check your registration is OK, open WinRAR (Start, All Programs, WinRAR) andclick on the Help button (near the top of the WinRAR window), select About WinRAR ... and your AV code should appear under "Registered to". 
•  * Sorry about all these extra steps, but Windows 7 and Vista security will not allow us to extract files directly into their Program Files folder!

To extract your RAR keyfile for different operating systems:

• Copy your rareg.key file into your home folder, for example /root/ or /home/user, or to your RAR folder.
• To check your registration is OK, start RAR with no commands, your AV code should appear immediately below the RAR version and copyright notice.

After confirming you are in our WinRAR register we will resend your WinRAR license key as above. If you did not purchase your WinRAR or RAR license from us you will need to request assistance from your supplier as winrar.co.nz does not have access to personal data from other sites' sales.
